I believe that Bhagat Singh was one of the most diplomatic individuals. When I was reading a speech written by Bhagat Singh in Punjabi, he clearly pointed out the shortcomings of the Punjabi language. For example, if a translator translates “Nachiketa” into Punjabi as “Nichikutiya,” the meaning and impact would change entirely. However, at the end of his letter, he also highlighted the strengths of the Punjabi language. This reminded me of Swami Vivekananda’s words—”Convey your message in such a way that it reaches people without hurting anyone.”We should be able to speak, read, and (if necessary) write in local languages. However, we must focus on the most widely used international language, the national language, and the most ancient language—Sanskrit. Sanskrit should be written in the most commonly used script, just as it is written in ISKCON’s English books.Sanskrit has many benefits, which I have personally experienced. Its proper pronunciation generates sound vibrations that create a deep sense of relaxation, a positive and stable mood, and heightened awareness. You can experience this yourself by singing Sanskrit bhajans or shlokas, such as those by Madhavi Madhukar Jha. I love all his Sanskrit bhajans, and I also sing them myself. If we let go of all hatred towards languages and write all languages in the Latin script, it would be more helpful for future generations. I am not suggesting abandoning one’s native language, but rather embracing the most widely used international languages and writing styles. Over time, people will naturally adopt a common language, making life much easier. We can incorporate synonyms from all languages, which would make poetry even more beautiful. The original script can be taught to a limited number of people, but if general books are written in the Latin script, they would be more accessible to a wider audience. For example, Sri Guru Granth Sahib is written in the Gurmukhi script, but it contains words from 5-6 different languages. Similarly, we can write words from all languages in the Latin script while preserving their originality and compile a dictionary that includes synonyms from all languages.
